New Reading Award Announced

PLT has just announced the establishment of a new reading award. The Frances Mottey Beck Middle-School “Ah-Ha” Reading Award is presented in recognition of a middle-school educator or team of educators who has designed an effective, replicable program for advancing reading/literacy. The award consists of a cash payment of two thousand dollars ($2000). It was established in 2008. It is underwritten by the John and Frances Beck Foundation and is co-sponsored by Pi Lambda Theta.

Sept. 29, 2008 deadline for proposals
to present at the 2009 NSDC summer conference
Boston  --  July 19-22, 2009

Together next summer: PLT will hold its 46^th biennial delegate council during NSDC’s summer teacher-leader conference! PLT activities will be held during the conference.

Whether or not you plan to present, ask your principal or director of professional learning to fund you before their budgets are spoken for. They all know NSDC. Most of them are NSDC members. They’ll support you if they can.

Reminder for students

If you plan to participate in a formal graduation ceremony, order your gold honor cord early to assure timely delivery. Check first to be sure your institution permits honor cords.

Pi Lambda Theta is the most selective national honor society of educators and a contributing body to quality assurance in education. It employs its standing and reach to advocate for accomplished teaching and standards-based professional learning. PLT extends membership to students and professionals who satisfy academic eligibility requirements, however those requirements are waived for National Board-certified teachers and recipients of any of the widely recognized awards enrolled in PLT’s Project Excellence.
