Nadeen Burkeholder Williams
Music Scholarships
provide $1,000 for tuition to an outstanding
K-12 teacher who is pursuing a graduate degree at an accredited
college or university, and who either is a music education teacher or
applies music systematically in teaching another subject. A recipient
may be a full-time or a part-time student. If the recipient is
qualified to be a member of Pi Lambda Theta but is not a member, a
complimentary one-year membership is extended. Recipients are
notified by April 1, and funds are disbursed directly to the institution
in which the applicant is enrolled. The scholarship was established in
1998. It is sustained by a restricted fund established in the Pi
Lambda Theta Educational Endowment with a bequest from Nadeen
Burkeholder Williams. |

--- Research Grants are awarded in amounts up to $2,500 for clearly conceptualized research proposals concerning education. Proposals are evaluated and grants awarded semiannually. Recipients are notified by the end August for April submissions, or the end of February for October submissions. A research grant proposal can be for an independent project or a part of a larger project, such as a dissertation. Research grants are funded by the Pi Lambda Theta Educational Endowment and the Maxine Northrop Stephanian Fund. See recipient list |

---The Student Support Scholarships provide $750 for tuition or books. Recipients may be part-time or full-time students. Recipients are notified by July 1, and funds are disbursed directly to the institution in which the applicant is enrolled. The scholarships are funded by numerous small donations that many Thetans voluntarily add to their international dues each year. The scholarship was established in 1996. See recipient list |

Sorenson Physical Education Scholarships
provide $1,000 for
tuition to an outstanding student who intends to pursue a career at
the K-12 level as a physical education teacher, adapted physical
education teacher, coach, recreational therapist, dance therapist or
similar professional focusing on teaching the knowledge and use of the
human body. A recipient may be a full-time or a part-time student. If
the recipient is qualified to be a member of Pi Lambda Theta but is
not a member, a complimentary one-year membership is extended.
Recipients are notified by April 1, and funds are disbursed directly to
the institution in which the applicant is enrolled. The scholarship
was established in 1999. It is sustained by a restricted fund
established in the Pi Lambda Theta Educational Endowment with a gift
from Barbara Wynne Sorenson to honor the memory of her son. |

Janet Ishikawa –
Daniel Fullmer Scholarships are awarded to interns in the
Dean’s Leader for the Next Generation post-doctoral program at the
College of Education of the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. The
scholarships were established in 2005. They are sustained by a
restricted fund established in the Pi Lambda Theta Educational
Endowment with a gift from Janet Ishikawa-Fullmer and Daniel Fullmer.

while teaching at a school that is not exceptionally well supported
financially. The award consists of a cash payment of five hundred
dollars ($500) and a framed certificate. If the recipient is qualified to be a
member of Pi Lambda Theta but is not a member, a complimentary
one-year membership is extended. The award, established in 1997, is funded by Thelma
Brown, a career classroom teacher and a life member of Pi Lambda
Theta. Thelma Brown has served the association in many capacities at
all levels, including two terms as international vice president from
1989 to 1993. |
