1) The award must recognize sustained
accomplishment. Awards for one-time accomplishments do not
qualify.
2) The award’s criteria for selection must
be specified.
3) The award’s application process must be
specified.
4) The sponsor of the award must not
expect endorsements by the award recipient or by Pi Lambda
Theta.
5) The geographic scope of the award must
be state level or a city/region with a population exceeding
500,000.
6) The sponsoring group must be a federal
or state agency, a non-profit group with a membership that
exceeds 5,000, a corporation listed on the New York or
American Stock Exchanges, or a foundation with at least
$1,000,000 in assets.
7) The award selection committee must be
composed of persons who have no direct ties to the
candidates, i.e., the selection process must come as close
as possible to a blind review of the candidates.
8) Pi Lambda Theta must be able to reserve
the right to withdraw recognition of an award if the award
ceases to meet the above-stated criteria. Such withdrawal of
recognition would not affect the status of those awardees
previously admitted to membership.
