What awards are eligible to be enrolled in Project Excellence?

Each Project Excellence award recognizes excellence in some facet of education and is awarded on the basis of outstanding performance as an educator. PLT’s board of directors may make appropriate exceptions to the following requirements:

1) The award must recognize sustained accomplishment. Awards for one-time accomplishments do not qualify.

2) The award’s criteria for selection must be specified.

3) The award’s application process must be specified.

4) The sponsor of the award must not expect endorsements by the award recipient or by Pi Lambda Theta.

5) The geographic scope of the award must be state level or a city/region with a population exceeding 500,000.

6) The sponsoring group must be a federal or state agency, a non-profit group with a membership that exceeds 5,000, a corporation listed on the New York or American Stock Exchanges, or a foundation with at least $1,000,000 in assets.

7) The award selection committee must be composed of persons who have no direct ties to the candidates, i.e., the selection process must come as close as possible to a blind review of the candidates.

8) Pi Lambda Theta must be able to reserve the right to withdraw recognition of an award if the award ceases to meet the above-stated criteria. Such withdrawal of recognition would not affect the status of those awardees previously admitted to membership.
