Education: Power and Promise
Education: Power
and Promise explores the power
of education for extending knowledge and creating a
compassionate society for all species and Earth. Beyond
the power of knowledge is the use of that knowledge to
create humane relationships that are based on ethics,
commitment, and peace. We need every teacher to be a
humane educator, incorporating relevant issues into
their curricula, and we need every institute of learning
to offer humane education to its students to prepare
them to be contributing global citizens.
No Child Left Behind has
emphasized reading, writing, and mathematics. Schools
are beginning to pay attention to the other 3R’s:
respect, reverence, and responsibility for others. These
3R’s will be addressed in the workshops of this
conference.
- What does it mean to
be responsible for others?
- How do people
evaluate information critically and creatively?
- How do people
(adults or children) become sensitive to the ecology
of the world around them?
