Purpose:
These scholarships are intended to encourage students to attend
PLT’s biennial council and leadership conference by defraying some
of the cost of attending.
Eligibility: To be eligible, an applicant must be a current
member of PLT and a full-time student (as defined by the
institution) at the time of application, the time of the conference,
or during the semester or quarter immediately following the
conference, or a non-member who is a full-time student and, in
addition, has been named the recipient of an international grant,
scholarship, or award conferred by PLT since the most recent
biennial council.
Amount: Each scholarship
includes one complimentary registration plus a $150 expense
allowance.
Disbursement: The expense allowance is
disbursed at the conference. Complimentary registration requires no
disbursement.
Application: There is no
application form; however, each person applying for a scholarship
must apply in writing, and there must be no more than one name per
application. An application must contain 1) the name, phone number(s),
e-mail, and mailing address of the applicant, 2) a statement that
the applicant is seeking a scholarship to include registration and a
$150 expense allowance to be distributed at the conference, 3) a
recitation of the city, state, and dates of the conference, and 4)
proof of full-time student status. Applications may be submitted by
any medium that supports proof of student status, including e-mail
and fax as well as hard-copy. Telephone applications will not be
accepted.
Deadline: Applications will not be accepted before February 1
of the council year, and must be received in the international
office before the close of business on
May 1 of the council year. If
any scholarships remain unawarded as of May 1, subsequent
applications will be honored on a first-come-first-served basis.
All applicants will be notified by May
15.
Selection: Priority will be
given to applicants in this order: 1) qualified recipients of
awards, grants, or scholarships to be conferred at biennial council;
2) qualified recipients of named international awards, grants, or
scholarships conferred since the most recent biennial council; 3)
qualified recipients of Student Support Scholarships conferred since
the most recent biennial council; 4) qualified recipients of
research grants conferred since the most recent biennial council; 5)
qualified applicants who have made a commitment to present a
workshop; 6) qualified applicants who have made a commitment to
present an exhibit at the conference poster session; 7) other
qualified applicants. If there are not enough scholarships for all
applicants in a priority pool, applicants within that pool will be
assigned priority in random order.
Acceptance: The
I.O. will make a reasonable effort to contact each applicant
selected to receive a scholarship. A preliminary recipient must
accept or decline the scholarship by the sooner of one week after
being contacted by the international office or two weeks after the
first attempt at contact was made. Both a conference registration
and a written acceptance must be submitted to secure a scholarship.
If this documentation is not received by the applicable deadline, or
if the scholarship is declined, the applicant’s eligibility will be
forfeit and the scholarship will be offered to the remaining
applicant with the highest preference established by the selection
process. |
